Step away from the everyday and spend an evening exploring the wonders of the night sky at Capricorn Caves with adventurer and astronomer Dr John McGrath.

Using telescopes and John’s extensive knowledge of the night sky, you’ll journey through space and time to discover stars, planets, galaxies and star clusters, and learn how to find the centre of our own Milky Way.

You’ll discover how astronomers can look seconds, years and even centuries into the past, explore the meaning behind your Zodiac sign and tackle one of humanity’s biggest questions:

Is there life out there?

But there’s more to the stars than what we can see through a telescope. Discover how important reading the stars has been to Traditional Owners, including their use for navigation and everyday life, and learn how to recognise the increasing number of human-made objects travelling through space.

Designed for curious minds of all ages, ‘Under the Stars’ is part presentation, part stargazing experience and part journey into the unknown.

Come with warm clothes, a questioning mind and a sense of wonder.

Your Evening

1. Arrive & check in at Capricorn Caves RECEPTION
2. Meet Dr John McGrath and head to the oval
3. Explore the night sky using telescopes and guided commentary
4. Discover stars, planets, galaxies and Zodiac signs
5. Stargaze, ask questions and explore the mysteries of the universe
6. Pack up & head home with a head full of new discoveries, big questions and stars to dream about

Before You Arrive

All bookings must be paid online. No payment will be taken on the night of the tour. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your session. You will be given further instructions in your booking confirmation email.

The Astronomy Tour takes place outdoors at night. Guests should be comfortable walking short distances over natural, uneven ground and spending time outside. We recommend bringing:

• A warm jacket or light coat
• Enclosed footwear
• Water bottle
• Insect repellent
• A blanket or chair if you’d like to sit comfortably

Picnic mats are provided, so bringing your own chair or blanket is optional.
