I arrived with minutes to spare, joining the 2pm tour. The lady conducting our tour was absolutely passionate, dedicated to the caves. She was funny and very interesting, adding to the experience.
Discovered in 1881 by a Norwegian immigrant, the caves were owned by the Olsen family until 1988, when they were purchased by a couple. Capricorn Caves are the largest privately owned cave system in Queensland. They are also a unique cave system.
Being claustrophobic, I elected to do a simple cave tour. However, for the more adventurous, it’s possible to do a 90 min caving experience. Highlight of our tour was the cathedral, when the guide turned off all lighting and played a superb piece of music, show-casing the acoustic’s of the cave.
