Capricorn Caves Outdoor and Environmental Education Centre offers groups the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the local environment and history of central Queensland’s premier limestone cave attraction.
Whether you are planning your annual school leadership camp, or a subject specific excursion, our residential facility and day visit areas allows us to tailor camps and excursions to your specific needs. We welcome school groups from P-12, as well as youth groups and tertiary level students.
Our diverse program includes outdoor challenges, environmental exploration, cultural immersions, citizen science experiences and camp staples such as team games, campfire, cooking and art. Of course, no visit is complete without a guided tour into the enchanting chambers of the Capricorn Caves.
Groups are offered a unique caving adventure here at Capricorn Caves. Our qualified guides lead young adventurers along a tailored caving route, ensuring the challenge is appropriate to age and abilities. Safety is our number one priority, so students will be given helmets and a thorough briefing before attempting the challenge. Once in the belly of the mountain, the group will climb, crawl and squeeze through the maze of tunnels and chambers. Students are encouraged to overcome fears, push beyond comfort zones, and support their peers. Teachers are directed to the alternative non-crawling routes if required, and can meet students ’round the bend’ to capture great photos of their successes. A camp favourite, Adventure Caving, is also the dirtiest so be prepared! Don’t forget to BRING YOUR TORCH!
Here at Capricorn Caves we are always looking for ways to improve our camp and excursion curriculum offerings. We have been busy working on a new activity for our future visitors. Imagine spending a whole day with your classmates working together to build a raft! Surrounded by beautiful native bushland and watch the cool water of the nearby creek flow by, this day will surely be remembered for a lifetime. Each group will be given materials to construct their “floating wreck”, and challenged to win the race to paddle their craft across the creek and then safely back to shore. Please get in contact with our staff if you wish to register your schools’ interest in participating in this activity.

Capricorn Caves is one of Queensland’s oldest tourism attractions, and holds Ecotourism accreditation. In addition, many staff have Savannah Guide or Outdoor Recreation & Leadership qualifications. Secondary School students studying Tourism or Outdoor Recreation can visit our attraction to make enquiries that relate to their research assessment tasks. We offer the opportunity for classes to meet with a Guide and talk about business operations as well as career paths. Pair this session with a Cathedral Cave Tour, Adventure Caving or High Ropes Challenge for the complete tourism or outdoor recreation experience. Teachers will need to specify the specific outcomes of the excursion when booking.
