The next of our interviews is with Drew Chambers, our illustrious School Camp Coordinator. The ultimate adventure enthusiast, Drew brings an epic blend of wisdom, insatiable curiosity, and a burning desire to create mind-blowing memories, making him the life of the party in the Capricorn Caves crew.
What do you do at Capricorn Caves and how did you end up working here?
I’m the school camp coordinator, I ended up working at the caves after I applied for the job (lol).
What do you love most about working at Capricorn Caves?
The natural beauty that the caves have to offer.
Which is your favourite cave tour and why?
All of the tours are absolutely amazing, along with all of the caves. They all offer something different, whether it’s interpretation of the caves through the eyes of many different guides, or the thrills of squeezing through all the tiny spaces the caves have to offer.
Tell us about a particularly memorable experience you’ve had working at Capricorn Caves.
Apart from learning how to deal with spiders (unsuccessfully), my first time caving, or spelunking was a memorable one.
What do you think sets Capricorn Caves apart from other tourist attractions?
THE TOUR GUIDES! And the caves are kind of special as well, although special is an understatement.
What advice would you give to someone who is visiting Capricorn Caves for the first time?
Depending on your experience, maybe opt for the walking tour if it’s your first time visiting as these are some of the larger caves.
What do you like to do in your free time outside of work?
Basically the same as I would at work, minus the tourists, and plus one spouse. I thoroughly enjoy being out in nature and experiencing all of the beauty it has to offer.
And finally, if you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
This is a tough one but I would say Superman’s abilities. Super strength, speed, and he can fly!
